Get Down to Their Level

Return to main page

Educator example

Children are much more likely to engage in turns when you are face to face with them. That way they can see your mouth move and hear you clearly. Watch these children gather around their teacher when she gets down to their level.

Notice what happens when this next teacher leans down face to face with the children. They make eye contact and begin responding to her questions.

How will you use this strategy to increase conversations in your classroom?
